Black Version - 200 Copies Dear listener, On behalf of re:discovery records, it is with great excitement that we announce the joint compilation from Facil and Prototype 909 called 'Excerpts from 1993-1995. As most know, Prototype 909 was a legendary acid techno act from New York that toured the circuit as one of the premier rave acts from America during the 1990s. Facil was a side small duo project that only made one album and a few appearances on a handful of compilations. Both have one member in common: Dietrich Schoenemann. While thinking of re:discovery records and many years before the idea of running a label, Dietrich became an aquaintance thru buying some records from him to him sending me some Hidden Agenda records in the early 2000s. But I was a fan of Dietrich and all the Instinct Ambient artists from 1993-1997. We had many chats about Instinct Ambient days of the 1990's. I told him it was my favorite label of all time and I wanted to be a small part in sharing how amazing their music was to a new generation. Or at least for old heads like me to think back fondly of great chill out memories and have some of it on vinyl. The goal for this EP was to get a couple key tracks off the Facil album plus a few lesser known Prototype 909 ones, all to vinyl for the first time. The EP begins with the amazingly robotic ambient dub funk of 'Tree Frog'. A killer track that will have dancefloor patrons staring at each other with blank wtf faces. '700x7' completes the A-side with ambient dub gem. Floaty and airy melodics balance out a devastating 808 drum beat. This is ambient dub in the truest example. Most know me as a compilation digger. Before the late 90s and early 00s when people who listen to dj mixes, the diggers main way to branch off to new artists and labels were key compilations. The b-side offers two excellent but lost deep in double cd compilation tracks. 'Transit' & 'Planet S' are about as trance as Prototype 909 got and I would say both of these tracks rival and even in some ways, surpass 'Lovesky' for their most melodic techno of their early years. Lastly, we go back to Facil for the ambient ender that is 'Same Place' that was featured on the key compilation 'Ambient Systems 1'. Here is Prototype 909 member on Jason Szostek on their direction: 'Artistically 1994 saw Prototype 909 in transition. Having made a purposely and aggressively clear statement with the all retro Roland gear produced "Acid Technology" it was time to explore the rest of the studio as well as some of the unused tricks its members had up their sleeves. Where the debut album was raw and direct, in the year that followed P909 expanded its palette to wider and more expansive sounds. There was a lot going on in electronic music and we were curious about it all. Performing live let us play as loud, hard and raw as we could want freeing us up to use more subtle instincts back in the studio."Transit" and "Planet S" were made for compilations, which were always great opportunities to stretch while at the same time these works helped us find the balance we were looking for when completing arguably our best album "Transistor Rhythm" the year after.' - Jason Szostek re:discovery records wants to especially thank Dietrich Schoenemann for his guidance, mentorship and friendship for over 20 years with us. We also wish to thank Jason Szostek, Abe Duque and Taylor Deupree for giving us their thumbs up to release these lesser known but very appreciated tracks. It is also our hope that these bring you as much happiness as they have brought us and that this release gives them new life to a new audience and a special fond memory to those that knew them.
